To everyone that’s been reading my entries, I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last posting. I haven’t been idle though. New and exciting knowledge is flying at me from all angles and getting to me via unusual routes too….

Just the other day I decided to go a far flung place to look at some work. The appointment had not been confirmed but since we had been trying to coordinate our diaries for some time, and this was one of the stated possibilities, I thought I would go on the off chance.

The thing is, it was an off chance, because the meeting never happened.

However, it was such an ON chance because I got to hear about a most amazing project that is happening in the Masai Mara. The women of a village there have banded together and started to build rain water collection tanks. As a result, they have been seeing drastic reductions in water borne illnesses such as malaria. This simple strategy of collecting rain water for drinking and leaving the ditch water for the animals has vastly improved the lives of the villagers.

Not only that, (as if that wasn’t brilliant enough!!), the status of the women has also been improved. Traditionally, the view of women in the Masai way, is that of subordination. Because these women have improved life not only for themselves, but for the men and children too, they are beginning to gain the respect that has been long overdue.

A little known fact is; there is more than enough rainfall in Africa, to sustain the land, the people, and the animals. A huge project to supply corrugated iron for making roofs and collecting rainwater is underway. This doesn’t cost much, and it’s easy to fit.

Sometimes the simplest of solutions are the most effective.

A group of friends will be traveling out to Tanzania to build a school for Masai children there. When I get the link I will certainly be posting it here.

Some other friends asked the guests to their wedding to donate to a charity called Salt of the Earth and what a fantastic response they had. They wanted to raise a bit of money to help build a reservoir in the Southern Indian region of Tamil Nadu. They not only raised enough money to build the WHOLE reservoir, but also enough money was raised to dig a well too.

A Dealmaker friend of mine is talking to a well known high street bank today to see if she can get them to fund Stopcocks Women Plumbers (that’s us) for an expedition out to Southern India to carry out crucial and important work there.

I’ve long been a believer of the Law of Attraction. This is my dream. Whether or not the deal is made, whether I go out sooner or later. It will happen.
