Our Trip to Kenya – Day 4

The work on the plumbing begins in earnest. The planning for this phase of fixing and improving the rainwater harvesting system is done, now it’s time for the preparatory work here at KACH in Kenya.

Less heavy rain this time, but the Meru water that supplies our showers was off, so, no showers this morning. If rainwater had been collected overnight, there would be no problem.

Today is Sunday and many people throughout Kenya are at church, everyone is again surprised we are working.

The lawn in front of the main building is being resurfaced and is covered in piles of rich red soil. However, it is full of rocks; perfect to use to supplement the bases of the water tanks to be installed.

We began moving the rocks to make platforms for the water tanks and the children – even the youngest, joined in. This is great, helping to create the system as well as understanding how it works will mean that everyone takes ownership of it.

Hattie managed to find an unused tank in the nearby garden, so we can save money by using this.

Many friends have already committed donations to help us buy tanks and the other materials required. Thank you all, Asante sana.
