More about Jennie

A change in life circumstances led to Jennie’s decision to retrain as a plumber.

Her first career as a journalist saw her living in Australia, and writing for The Daily Telegraph in Sydney. Her duties included covering the Sydney Opera House and numerous arts and theatre events.

But on returning to England, and becoming a mother, she wanted a more family-friendly occupation.

“I’ve always been very practical and technically-minded, and love fixing things. Due to economic and personal circumstances, I decided to retrain. Plumbing was the perfect choice,” she says.

Jennie enrolled in a four-year apprenticeship course at her local college, and was taken on as a plumber’s mate by Magna Housing Association. This was followed by a second job, as a gas engineer for a small Weymouth firm.

In 2016, she joined Stopcocks to provide excellent plumbing and Gas Services to her local community as a plumber in West Dorset.

“I’ve been overwhelmed at all the support I’ve received,” she says. “Plus I’ve met so many interesting people, and have had some real adventures along the way.”
