sitting in a floodThe Bank Holiday is one of the very worst times to have a plumbing emergency but it appears they’re an inevitable part of the long weekend.

It’s only lunch time on Bank Holiday Sunday and already we’ve had an emergency call.

One of our regular plumbing customers had a kitchen fitted by a major kitchen supplier a couple of months ago and woke up this morning to a flood.

Last time our plumber called, she’d shown the customer how to turn off her water so the damage has been limited (if you don’t know how to turn off your water and gas get our DVD showing you how by emailing mica@stopcocks.uk).

The work is guaranteed and insured by the kitchen supplier but the customer preferred to call us who she trusts, than the supplier who apparently didn’t do things quite right. There’s no reason why this plumbing emergency should happen over the Bank Holiday, it just did, sods law.

Of course, since its a Bank Holiday, everyone wants to avoid emergency plumbing fees, but this regular customer preferred to pay us to come, even on a Bank Holiday to deal with her plumbing emergency.

Why is that?

Well; she has an existing relationship with us, and importantly, we’ve never let her down. By which I mean that we deal with her transparently. When things don’t go as planned, or we encounter something unexpected, we explain the options clearly so our customers can make an informed decision.

This combined with her confidence in our technical ability, means she trusts us.

So it’s us she prefers to call to deal with her plumbing emergency during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Its a bit early for the other type of emergency plumbing call we get on Bank Holidays, ones which happen as a result of DIY. The weather isn’t great though, so we may get several of those this Bank Holiday weekend.

So take care, DIYers, funnily enough, we prefer not to come out but to have a Bank Holiday ourselves!

And so that you can limit the damage yourself should the worst happen, know where your stop taps are and how to turn them off. If you don’t, drop an email to Mica to obtain our great DVD ‘The Secret Life of Pipes, Dealing with Emergencies’, showing real stop taps in real houses so you can recognise yours and learn how to deal with it.
